weekend soundtrack

I am a firm believer that every moment if your life should have a soundtrack and my ipod is never out of reach. This weekend I am planning on doing a whole lot of relaxing and also a fair amount of driving. Therefore my top 5 songs for the weekend include:

1. Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
It's not a road trip in my family without little Journey (even if the it's only a 30 minute drive!)

2. What's So Bad (About Feeling Good) - Ben Lee
Ben Lee just has a feel good vibe about his music and it's all so relaxing. It's the type of music that you can turn on and sing along with but also leave in the background as you go about your day.

3. I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide - ZZTop
Also another necessity while driving with my parents. Bands such as ZZTop are what my brother and I grew up listening to.

4. Heaven Only Knows - OKGiraffe
OKGiraffe hail from Montreal, Quebec and their music alternates between English and French (sometimes even in the same song!). I first saw them at my college bar a little over year ago, I was blown away at how beautiful this lady's voice is. They are definitely a band with checking out.

5. Why, Pt. 2 - Collective Soul
No matter what my mood, this is a song that constantly makes me feel 10x better. It always makes me want to stand up, dance and sing along.

I hope your weekend is lovely and full of adventure.

Rest and Relaxation

I've been home from school for almost a week and it's been pretty relaxing. Most days were spent in sweatpants and indoors, due to the lack on sunshine. While I was always out of bed before ten, I would only put on jeans when I had to leave the house and then changed immediately back into sweat pants or shorts when I got home.

Today, I decided to change that. I got up at 9, got on the bike, got a shower and put on a pair of jeans. Jeans which I plan to  keep on until I go to bed tonight! I think it was the coffee, or the peaking of sunshine from behind the clouds. Either way, no more lazy vacation days, it's time to get up and be more active and do something productive. Today's productive goal is wearing pants all day. Who knows what tomorrow's will be!

Maybe I need to start all of my days with coffee, and potentially learn how to do this! My two favorite things are coffee and monkeys. This is definitely a great way to start the day!

With spring finally showing it's colors, in the form of beautiful golden sunshine, I think tomorrow's productive adventure may include some gardening for my parents or maybe a walk along the beach path.

Hump Day Blues

I always find Wednesdays a bit dreary. So I decided to brighten up both my day and yours! Every Wednesday I'll post something happy, or funny, to remind us all that the weekend is right around the corner.

This is an adorable concept!

Baby Fever!

My cousin Lauren is pregnant, due in August. I went out with her for a bit tonight when the baby starting kicking. She quickly grabbed my hand and said 'Oh! Feel this!'

I had never felt a baby kick before. It was such a beautiful and terrifying experience. Now I'm excited to see this little girl or boy (preferably a girl) and buy cute 'tiny' things (like little dresses!) Oh I'm so excited and have baby fever! But not the type of baby fever that means I want to have a baby! My boyfriend can breathe easy because even though I'm thinking about babies, I most definitely do not want one in the near future!

Babies are so adorable! Especially these!

Honey Roasted Goodness

After I work out everyday I like to grab a small, quick snack. After 20 minutes on my exercise bike I headed out to the kitchen to see that my dad and put out some honey roasted cashews from our trip to the bulk barn earlier!

I forgot how tasty they were, and good for you too.. in moderation of course!

Sunshine Please!

In my two week break from school, I have been praying for sunshine. We have had an unusually warm winter this year with only a little snow; so I was really hoping for an unusually warm and sunny spring as well. I was hoping to start tanning and reading outside in the sunshine for these two weeks.

I am currently on day six of my break and there has been absolutely no sunshine! I am so disappointed. I really hope that the weather takes a nice turn and allows me to spend more of my break outside before I have to head back to the library for another six weeks!

Decisions, Decisions!

As of September, I am heading into the last year of my undergraduate degree in psychology. In October I will write the Graduate Requirement Exam and in December I will be frantically writing acceptance essays for various graduate schools in both Canada and the United States, hopefully for school that offers either Forensic Psychology or Criminology.

I spent the majority of my day researching graduate schools in both countries, trying to find schools I might like to go to. This proved be be a lot harder than I initially assumed. There are many schools that offer a master's degree in Forensic Psychology and/or Criminal Justice.

I'm probably only half way through my research on graduate schools and requesting information. I have no idea how I am going to be able to make a decision.

Happiness is...

Long relaxing bubble baths... and possibly a glass of wine.

Music Monday!

Music is a really important part of my life. It calms me down when I'm upset, helps relax me when I'm stressed, and provides comfort when I need it.

Every Monday I am going to share one of my favorite bands with you, or even a band that I'm into at the moment. Some Mondays I may just flick through my iTunes to see what I'm in the mood for.

For my very first edition of Music Monday I'm going to share one of my all time favorite bands with you, one that has been my comfort for years.

Stumbling through the Internet

I have recently downloaded Stumbleupon and it has quickly become addictive.

Stumbleupon takes me through various pages on the internet that it thinks I will like with one click of a button. It has shown me beautiful pictures of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, funny jokes that make me smile, and it shows me recipes that I wouldn't have found on my own. There is nothing that brightens your day more than stumbling upon a simple and delicious recipe.

Home Sweet Home!

With the semester over, I am now home for two weeks before intersession starts. I didn't realize how much stuff I had until it was all on my floor and I had to unpack it; not even when I was packing it into the car. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate after years of being in school, and throughout the year as well.

The two weeks now in between semester it's time to prepare for the next semester and research Graduate Schools and Programs. It's also time to get back in shape and sort through everything I own, I guess a university student's version of 'spring' cleaning.

From One Island to Another..

According to the previous post, to celebrate being done this semester of school my boyfriend and I were going for a drive to the beach so we could look at the stars.

We woke up this morning to cloud filled skies. Apparently they aren't just your regular old clouds they are ash/dust clouds for the volcanic eruption in Iceland! I live in Newfoundland which is on the opposite of the Atlantic Ocean!

Pretty cool, but I was kinda hoping for something that looked a little different from regular clouds. It's also a little frustrating because I'd been looking forward to going to the beach for a few days now. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!

Why Hello There!

So I guess if you're going to read my blog, you'll want to know a little about me!

My name is Sarah and I am currently studying Psychology with hopes of going to Graduate School to study Forensic Psychology when I graduate next year. A lot of people wonder why forensic psych, and why specifically criminal behavior, especially when there are so many different aspects of psychology I could choose from. But criminal behavior is something that fascinates me, how they think, why they do what they do. I met with a psych professor yesterday to talk about writing the GRE,the Graduate Requirement Exam and realized that I have a lot of work to do over the summer. All my hopes of finally having a relaxing summer were lost when I realized that I needed to start studying, pretty much immediately. But I guess that's how it works when you want to go to Grad School.

I like to sit on the beach in the night, look at the stars and dream. Company is always welcomed. To celebrate finishing our exams tonight my boyfriend and I are going to do just that. I guess that leads to the next point.. I have a wonderful boyfriend who treats me better than I ever could have asked for.

I love the rain and the way the air smells when the rain is over. I love coffee in the park and think that there is nothing better than reading a good book.

Fear of the Unexpected

I am one exam aways from finishing the semester... one exam away from beginning my last year of university. As I realized this I started to panic.

I suddenly realize that I have to start planning a future, one that includes more than my classes for the next semester or who I'd like for roommates. One the involves taking the time to think these decisions through. This is the start of planning the rest of my life... and I figured I'd take you all along on the ride.
